Third suspect arrested after deadly Paoli shooting

PAOLI, IN (WAVE) - Troopers tracked down and apprehended the third and final suspect in a triple shooting that killed two and injured another north of Paoli Monday.

According to Indiana State Police, John Robert Carpenter, 35, of Marengo, Indiana, was arrested at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Troopers said they found him in Harrison County, Indiana north of Fairview Church Road. Police set up and maintained a perimeter of the area overnight Saturday before searching a barn where they found Carpenter.

According to Sergeant Philip Hensley, Carpenter was taken into custody without incident and will be held in the Orange County Jail in Paoli.

The suspect has been on the run since Monday, after a shooting in which Nicholas Fields and Corey Harris were killed and Daniel Smitson was injured.

Police previously arrested Elbert Brooks and James Davidson in relation to this case.
