LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions by participating in Make-A-Wish Week on WAVE 3 News.
All this week, from Monday, June 30 through Sunday, July 6, WAVE 3 News is partnering with Make-A-Wish to raise awareness about the organization's important work and to raise money to make the dreams of sick children come true.
Together, we can change the lives of seriously ill kids and their families. Wish kids like Gabe from Louisville count on people like us to make their wishes possible.
During finals week of his junior year in high school, Gabe collapsed. He was taken to Norton Audubon Hospital where doctors discovered he had a malignant brain tumor the size of a golf ball. Gabe had surgery to remove the tumor, 30 radiation treatments to his brain and spine and nine months of chemo treatments. Eight of those treatments have been completed. He will undergo his ninth chemo treatment in July. Doctors say Gabe has an 85 percent chance of being cancer free.
Gabe loves cars and wants to become a mechanic. Just before his diagnosis at age 16, someone stole his El Camino. The company Gabe's dad works for found another El Camino and gave it to Gabe. Make-A-Wish stepped in and will pay to restore both the interior and exterior of the classic car.
Please help by contributing any amount you can -- $20, $50, $100 or even more. Every dollar you donate can help Make-A-Wish kids renew their courage and find a turning point in their lives. WAVE 3 News is trying to collect at least $5,000 this week. Click here to donate and help us reach our goal.
There are other unique ways to give to Make-A-Wish this week. Head to Louisville Slugger Field on Make-A-Wish Night at the Bats game on Sunday, July 6 and donate there. The first pitch will be thrown at 6:05 p.m. We'll be giving away tickets to that game on WAVE 3 News Sunrise this week. We'll also give away tickets to WAVE 3 News Night at the Bats game, which is Wednesday, July 2 at 7:05 p.m., as well as the Bats game on Thursday, July 3.
Come out to WAVE 3 News Night at the Bats game on Wednesday (which is also Jay Bruce Bobblehead Night) and meet the Sunrise team at the Concourse.
Thank you in advance for supporting this very worthy cause.
