Daviess Co. EMA hosts mock disaster exercise

Owensboro Volunteer Larry Yates has an important job.

He's standing by his ham radio incase the phone systems at First Presbyterian Church in Owensboro go down.

Yates and more than 50 other volunteers are participating in a mock disaster exercise put on by the Daviess County Emergency Management .

The scenario involves a tornado that touched down in Daviess County two days before and has knocked out power to most of the area.

"We've had this plan for several months, but we really didn't know what problems we would run into until we actually put the people into the positions," said Vicky Conner, Daviess County Emergency Management Agency.

Volunteers man the phones, log requests for help, and organizing other volunteers to offer assistance's.

The Daviess County Emergency Management says the volunteers did well. 

"We did run into some issues. We need to revise forms, work on some small issues, but overall it went very well," said Connor.
