OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

The city of Owensboro honored several hometown heroes at a ceremony Thursday afternoon.

The city unveiled the first of eight Walk of Fame plaques near the intersection of West Second and Saint Ann Street.

The plaques honor Owensboro natives Darrell Waltrip, Michael Waltrip, Wendell Ford, Rex Chapman, the Hayden Brothers, Brad Wilkerson, and Cliff Hagan.

Mayor Ron Payne says they all have gone on to bring fame to themselves and recognition to the city.

Payne says, "we're opening up our city and this is just another part of that where we're going to share with the world the history and the accomplishments of all of these wonderful people."

Mayor Payne says the city will release an app this fall where people can read the Walk of Fame honorees biographies.
