A federal grand jury indicted an Evansville man on a charge of possession of a sawed off shotgun by a convicted felon.
Authorities say 37-year old Larry Tomlinson was found with the weapon in May when authorities went to a local hotel to investigate a complaint of drug dealing.
Officials say Tomlinson has an extensive criminal record, from burglary and robbery to possession of cocaine and auto theft.
U.S. Attorney Joe Hogsett came to town this afternoon to talk about the case.
"He faces the possibility if the sentences are imposed consecutively of a total of 25 years in a federal prison," says Hogsett. "We have no business having convicted felons in illegal possession of firearms walking the streets of Vanderburgh County."
The investigation is part of the U.S. Attorney's Violent Crime Initiative launched in 2011.
It dramatically increases the number of gun related charges brought federally.
