FERDINAND, IN (WFIE) -

Detroit Police are searching for suspects after they say a man from Ferdinand, Indiana was shot to death and his semi set on fire.

Emergency crews responded to the scene on Detroit's west side just before 2:00 a.m. Thursday.

After the fire was put out, police found 5 shell casings outside the semi and found 31-year-old Mike Boeglin's body inside.

Boeglin's wife Ashley says she last spoke with him around midnight just as he was driving across the Michigan border.

She says they were talking about remodeling their home and getting the nursery ready for the birth of their child.

Ashley says Mike has been a truck driver for several years and was always careful where he parked.

She says he was driving a regular route and had places where he thought it was safe to pull over and get some sleep.

Ashley and her family are remembering Mike as the most compassionate man they knew.

"There's not a single person like him in the world," says Ashley. "I've never met a more honest, caring, hard working and loving individual. He would literally do anything he could to help anyone. He had the best work ethic I've ever met in a person. When he wanted something he'd go after it and if you told him he couldn't, he'd try that much harder."

Ashley has a message for the people who murdered her husband.

"No matter how bad this life's been to you, to rob someone of their loved one especially their unborn child, is the worst thing in the entire world that you could have ever done," says Ashley. "Mike would have give anything to be able to come home. If it was money, he would have given you everything that he had. If it was his ring, he would have given it to you. If you'd wanted his truck, he would have given you that too, just to be able to live and make it home to us. You should be ashamed."

The Wayne County Medical Examiner confirms Mike died from several gun shot wounds.

An investigator with Detroit Police says the homicide wasn't random.
