Culver Elementary School teaches kids about gardening

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Students are learning about science, gardening, and nutrition at the Culver Elementary community garden.

Teachers and volunteers taught kids where vegetables come from and how to plant and take care of them.

Those kids planted gourds, pumpkins, and other fall vegetables before taking home their own flower.

Organizer and preschool teacher Jared Totsch says he hopes everyone can benefit from the garden, not just kids.

"It's an opportunity for the community as well as the students to be a part of a bigger picture," says teacher Jared Totsch. "To come and see things that they plant and grow."

Kids and their families can continue working in the garden throughout the summer.

In the fall they'll turn it into a green house and use it for classes.
