Madisonville Police investigating string of church burglaries

HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

Madisonville Police are investigating a string of church break-ins.

Detectives say three churches have been burglarized over the past three weeks.

Police say some items were stolen and there's been damage to windows and doors.

Police don't know if they are looking for one suspect, or a group of people.

A pastor of one of the churches says it appears the burglars were looking for cash but didn't find any.

"It was obvious they were looking for cash because there was credit cards in there, check books and things like that. But those things were not taken. We don't keep cash in the safe. But they didn't take anything else of value. Computers and other things in there. But it was obvious they were looking for cash," says senior pastor of Eastview Baptist Church, Shalmon Radford.

If you have any information, you are asked to contact the Madisonville Police Department or crime stoppers at 270-825-1111.
