Owensboro Community and Technical College is one step closer to building a new advanced technology center on campus.
The Owensboro City Commission and Daviess County Fiscal Court announced Monday to contribute $1-million each toward the new Skilled Trade Center.
The colleges goal is to raise $4.5-million locally to help fund the $12-million project.
OCTC's President says the extra space is needed.
"What this building is going to do is going to create this lab space necessary to really carry the college forward, because today if we need lab space another program is going out the door, just to bring another in," said Dr. Jim Klauber.
The new two-story technology center will be built on campus beside the Daviess County Extension office.
The college will move its heating, ventilation and air conditioning classes as well as the welding and industrial maintenance programs into the building.
