ORANGE COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - Two person were killed and a third person was injured in a shooting Monday afternoon north of Paoli.

Indiana State Police said Nick Fields, 56, died Monday at Indiana University Health in Paoli from a gunshot wound to the head.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said Cory Harris, 25, who also suffered a gunshot wound to the head, died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday at University of Louisville Hospital.

Fields' family members said the triple shooting at Fields' home at 2350 North County Road 200 West was drug-related.

"Even though I know it was over drugs, it's pretty senseless," said Danny Fields, the victim's brother.

Police said a third gunshot victim, 29-year-old Daniel Smitson, was in stable condition at University of Louisville Hospital after being shot in the mouth. Smitson wasn't cooperating with investigators, Indiana State Police Sgt. Philip Hensley said.

"We're not ruling it out," Hensley said, when asked whether any of the victims were also suspects in the shooting. "It's something we'll consider."

Hensley said someone initially called 911 to report a man down at the Fields home around 1 p.m. Monday. When emergency responders came to the scene, they found three gunshot victims.

Harris and Smitson were outside the home, while Fields was inside.

Indiana State Police, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, and Paoli Police began work on the case, which was delayed as late-afternoon storms sent investigators scrambling for shelter.

Fields' family watched the police work from a home next door. Fields was on meth and people were often coming and going from the home, his brother said.

"I would've much rather seen him go to jail than where he's at now," Danny Fields said.

Hensley said investigators will stay on the scene throughout the night to maintain security. The coroner performed an autopsy on Fields on Tuesday.
