LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A 19-year-old was killed and his 25-year-old sister suffered a gunshot wound to the face during a shooting near a day care Monday morning, according to Louisville Metro Police.

LMPD spokeswoman Officer Carey Klain said the shooting was reported at 10:50 a.m. at the Willow Creek Apartments in the 5200 block of Shepherdsville Road.

Neighbors said they heard the gun shots ring out.

"Just boom, boom, boom," said one woman who didn't want her identity revealed. "The bullets could have traveled through the whole apartment, I got children in there."

Klain said police are looking for a man in his early 20s with braids in connection with the shootings.

"The suspect is possibly domestic related, but again the female is unable to speak and we don't have any actual witnesses we are just trying to verify that," said Klain.

Neighbors said the shooter and the woman who was shot had been in a relationship. People who knew her, said he was trouble. They said he recently set the woman's mother's vehicle on fire in the parking lot.

"I was telling a friend of mines, ‘oh Lord, I hope he don't come here and set the building on fire,'" said another woman whose identity is being withheld.

"She told me that he was sending her threatening text messages and then I guess it lead up to this," a neighbor said.

The woman was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. A toddler was also found unharmed in the apartment.

Police have not said if the suspect fled on foot or in a vehicle. Anyone with any information in the case is asked to call (502) 574-LMPD.
