LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Louisville area may have the most compassionate people in the nation, but we are not fit.
Among the nation's 50 largest metropolitan areas, just one is less fit – the good folks in Memphis.
The American College of Sports Medicine did the study, and included eight surrounding Kentucky counties and four Indiana counties in addition to Jefferson County, Louisville's home.
Their fitness index showed our area with double the percentage of smokers and about half the percentage of folks who eat three or more vegetables a day. We also under index in aerobic activity.
The bottom line, more of us are obese, and more of us and have diabetes or asthma.
The only way to live in a healthier region is for all of us to individually, or in groups, do something about it.
Stop smoking. Curb food intake. Eat smarter. Walk more. Exercise often. Don't pollute the air.
Being physically fit leads to being mentally fit.
Both make for a more desirable place to live.
Summertime officially starts in about a week. Take advantage of the brighter days to make some lifestyle, and life altering, changes.
