LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A black lab is recovering in Louisville after someone attempted to decapitate him in Henderson County, according to The Arrow Fund.
The dog, named Mooney, was brought the Henderson County Humane Society by someone who saw him stumble in a yard and noticed his gruesome injury.
Thursday, the Henderson County Humane Society contacted The Arrow Fund. Shortly after, Dr. Jeff Allen and his copilot Valerie Ledbetter Hurt flew to get Mooney and brought him back to Louisville for treatment.
The Arrow Fund said in addition to the wound on his neck Mooney has both new and old bite wounds on his body, his right shoulder is swollen and he tested positive for heartworm.
Thursday evening Mooney was placed on IV pain medicine, fluids and antibiotics.
He is expected to undergo surgery once he gains enough strength.
The Henderson County Animal Control is investigating the case.
