Popular diner in Morganfield closes its doors

A popular restaurant in Morganfield, "Deb and Jen's Diner", is now closed and residents are wondering what will happen to the building.

Restaurant owner, Debbie Newcom, says the decision to shut down the diner was not an easy one because it wasn't for business reasons but rather personal ones.

Newcome has owned the diner for the past six years, but the building has continuously housed other restaurants and shops for several decades.

She says her 50's themed diner was very popular while she was in business, but the stress of keeping the dated building intact proved to be too much to handle.

Newcom says she's ready to move on but will miss cooking for her loyal customers, "To my friends and the people I love, thank you. thank you because it's meant a lot to us, trying, you know, making them happy and pleased, while they were here. And that was our goal."

We spoke to building owner Paul Henderickson on the phone.  Henderickson says he does intend to rent this space to future businesses, but that he hasn't received any offers as of yet.
