Fire restrictions begin Friday in Coconino and Kaibab forests

FLAGSTAFF, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Fire danger is rising in the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests causing greater fire restrictions in the area.

Starting May 30 at 8 a.m. campers will not be able to build any kind of fire whether it be a campfire, charcoal, coal, or stove fire even if it it's in a developed campground or improved site.

There can be no smoking unless it is done in an enclosed vehicle or building. No gun fire of any sort is allowed unless it is part of law enforcement.

Use of any internal combustion engine is prohibited from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

People in the area can use devices that only use liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off as well as generators that have approved spark assistance. These devices can only be used in areas clear of surrounding flammable materials.

These restrictions will remain in effect until forest officials call them off.
