Prisoner who escaped in stolen SUV faces new charges

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A prisoner who escaped from an Interstate 64 rest stop in Clark County, KY while being transported to a prison facility in eastern Kentucky is facing new charges.

Police say Fabian Hunter Valentine headed west on I-64 in an SUV he stole from a couple at the rest stop after overpowering a guard inside a restroom and taking his gun. Valentine was captured about 90 minutes later in Shelbyville after crashing the stolen vehicle into a police cruiser.

He's now facing a long list of charges including assault, wanton endangerment, robbery and escape.

Valentine was charged with a series of robberies in the Louisville area. He was being transported from Louisville to the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty when the incident happened.
