Because money is taken straight out of a checking account, debit cards are even more attractive to thieves because they can get direct access to your money.
bankrate.com says outdoor ATM's are among the most dangerous places to use a debit card because thieves can more easily place devices over the real card slots to 'skim' information.
The same goes for paying at the pump at gas stations.
The group also warns against using debit cards to buy online because of the potential for hacking at different points during a transaction.
Finally, bankrate.com advises consumers against letting their debit card out of their sight, such as giving it to a waiter or waitress. You may want to consider using cash or a credit card instead.
