There are several Memorial Day services planned in Western Kentucky on Monday.
In Owensboro, the first is scheduled to take place at 9:00 am at Smothers Park, in front of the Charles E. Shelton Freedom Memorial.
The city will salute those Americans and their families who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation with a wreath-laying ceremony.
The city has added 28 additional memorial pavers to the Shelton Memorial. Mayor Payne will unveil the new set of engraved pavers at the ceremony.
At 11:00 am, another ceremony planned at the Sportscenter War Memorial on Hickman Avenue.
At 6:00 pm, a sea service ceremony will take place on the riverfront near the VFW's post #696, located on West Veterans Boulevard. The event features the placing of a wreath in the Ohio River.
In Henderson, the War Memorial Foundation is having a service in Central Park downtown at 10:00.
In Madisonville, wreath laying ceremony will take place at 8:00 am at the City of Madisonville Veterans Memorial, located on 505 North Main Street. Mayor David Jackson and Judge-Executive Donnie Carroll will be there, along with the American Legion Color Guard, Madisonville Police Department, Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, and Madisonville Fire Department.
The public is invited to attend all of these events.
