Elizabethtown native Perry to compete in PGA Championship at Valhalla

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Kenny Perry, an Elizabethtown native and member of the victorious 2008 United State Ryder Cup team in his home state, has received a special invitation to compete in the 96th PGA Championship at Louisville's Valhalla Golf Club in August.

Perry will make his third Valhalla appearance in a PGA Championship. In 1996, Perry lost to Mark Brooks in a playoff for the major championship. He tied for 30th in 2000, the last time the championship was held at Valhalla.

"To me, if I can get back there, it would be a great way to say 'bye' to everybody," Perry said in a news release. "It's kind of my way to retire. I've given 30 years of my life to the PGA Tour, and it would be a great way to kind of end my chapter on the PGA Tour out there."

The 96th PGA Championship is scheduled to end on August 10, which is Perry's 54th birthday.

"Kenny is an outstanding representative of the game and the PGA of America, and I'm sure he will experience another memorable week at Valhalla in August," said PGA of America President Ted Bishop.

Perry picked up his sixth Champions Tour victory earlier in May.
