Elgin man gets 11 years for fatal crash

An Elgin man accused of causing a fatal car crash while intoxicated has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.
A passenger died in the high-speed rollover crash near Burlington in Kane County.

Evidence showed the car was traveling at about 100 mph.

Two other passengers were injured in the 2012 crash.
Prosecutors say 19-year-old Shannon D. Hill told the surviving passengers not to report the crash and then fled.
Hill was arrested later at a hospital.

The Kane County State's Attorney's Office says witnesses told authorities Hill had been drinking and smoking marijuana.
Hill pleaded guilty to charges of failing to report an accident involving a death and reckless homicide.
He also admitted to an unrelated charge of selling heroin to an undercover officer.
He was sentenced Thursday.
