EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Dave Wedding is officially the new Vanderburgh County Sheriff.

He was sworn in Friday morning by Judge David Kiely in front of a packed room at the Civic Center.

Wedding will serve out the remaining six months of Eric Williams' term.

Williams announced last month that he would be retiring early to become the director of security at Old National Bank.

Wedding will face Kirk Byram in November's election for the sheriff's seat.

Wedding has announced that he will be appointing Major John Strange as his Chief Deputy Sheriff.
