EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Attorneys for a woman accused of setting an Evansville apartment fire have requested that she undergo a competency evaluation.
47-year-old Michelle Hersberger allegedly started the fire at Sugar Mill Creek apartments last April
According to police, Hershberger was upset with one of her disabled roommates and intentionally started the fire to kill herself and the roommate.
9 apartment units were destroyed and 20 people were displaced by the fire.
Attorneys also said on Friday that they plan to pursue a defense based on mental disease or defect.
