Indiana State Police are investigating the death of an 11-month-old infant in Loogootee.
Troopers say it happened yesterday afternoon after a babysitter put the child in a car seat.
They say the babysitter realized the infant's diaper needed changing, so she unfastened the crotch buckle of the seat and went to get another diaper.
The babysitter told troopers that she was gone for no more than two minutes.
When she came back, the infant had slid down in the seat and was suffocated by the upper part of the child seat harness.
The babysitter called for help and attempted to perform CPR until first responders arrived, but they were unable to save the infant.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed Friday.
No word on the identity of the babysitter or the infant.
The case remains under investigation.
