7-year-old girl killed in car accident in Pleasure Ridge Park

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A 7-year-old girl died after the car she was riding in was hit head-on by a SUV.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the 7200 block of Terry Road at Rivers End Road, in Pleasure Ridge Park, near PRP High School.

According to Alicia Smiley, spokeswoman for the Louisville Metro Police Department, the driver of a Jeep was attempting to pass a car going southbound on Terry Road when he collided head-on with a Chevrolet going northbound carrying four people.

Inside that Chevy was the driver and three young girls, ages 7, 11 and 13. There was no one else in the Jeep with the driver. Smiley said the impact of the vehicles was so great, the Chevy was flipped on its roof.

The 7-year-old girl, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the other three passengers of the Chevy were taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. The relationship of the people in that car is not known at this time.

The driver of the SUV, a male, was taken to University Hospital with life threatening injuries, according to Smiley.

LMPD's Traffic Unit continues to investigate the cause of the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
