EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

One week removed from the storms that caused damage throughout the area, Evansville residents are being warned of tree trimmers who do not meet city requirements.

Evansville requires that all tree trimming companies be licensed through the city before work be done inside the city.

The license is fairly easy to get for companies. Workers need to take a class with the city once every three months and have insurance.

However, when storms roll in, some companies come to the area looking for work or people try to make extra money on the side.

Evansville City Arborist Shawn Dickerson says the license gives a level of accountability with the city.

He says if you use an unlicensed company and someone gets hurt, you might have to pay for their medical bills.

"The tree work profession is one of the top 10 most dangerous jobs in the United States, according to OSHA," Dickerson said.  "It's such a dangerous job because you're operating dangerous tools and you're working around dangerous things."
