Evansville City Council VP responds to accusations, hires lawyer

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Stephanie Brinkerhoff-Riley responds to being accused of recording a confidential meeting.

The Vice President of Evansville City Council tells 14News she isn't commenting right now but, "... will have a full statement on the matter very soon."

City Council President John Friend says Brinkerhoff-Riley is suspected of recording and then leaking the city's audit exit review.

Sources tell 14News reporter Brandon Bartlett that Brinkherhoff-Riley is reportedly placing some of the blame on Friend for being behind the leaked recording.

The State Board of Accounts says it will pursue prosecution for the recording and the State Police have been asked to investigate.

In the meantime, Brinkerhoff-Riley has hired former city attorney David Jones to represent her.

Scott Danks, who is the attorney for Evansville City Council, is representing John Friend, an Tri-State online blog and the editor of the blog, Joe Wallace.
