Friends of an American missionary who came to Haiti shortly after the January 2010 earthquake say the man has been stabbed to death.
Friends say George Knoop was at home in the Delmas section of the capital when he was killed Tuesday afternoon.
The 78-year-old Knoop was an elder of the Quisqueya Chapel in Haiti and a volunteer for U.S.-based Missionary Flights International.
Fellow church member Zach Segaar-King says Knoop managed to call friends for help and gave them a description of his assailant before he died. He says he likely knew his killer.
Haitian police had no immediate comment.
Larry Campbell of Missionary Flights International says Knoop had been a teacher in the Chicago area and felt called by God to work in Haiti.
