LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A vote to close a Jefferson County Public School and relocate hundreds of students was passed during a board meeting Monday.
The plan would reassign nearly 200 incoming Myers Middle School 6th graders to 10 other middle schools and move 45 7th and 8th graders to Waggener High School where they would be taught separately from high school students.
JCPS Superintendent Dr. Donna Hargens said the change were required to address chronically low academic performance at Myers, which is located in Hikes Point, where only 11 percent of students were proficient in math and 23 percent were proficient in reading, according to 2013 test scores.
