Sisters nationally recognized for heroism

Posted: Updated:

It's been a wild ride for sisters Bettye Windom and Beth Insley since their short, wild ride to stop a burning school bus.

Windom says the front of the bus was smoking, so she flashed her headlights while her sister hung out of the window and shouted. Then she called 911 and pulled alongside. Finally, she pulled in front and slammed on her brakes to stop the bus. She and her sister yelled for everyone to get off.

She says that just after the last students got out, the bus burst into flames.

That was April 30. Since then, Windom and Insley have been interviewed by ABC's Diane Sawyer, flown to Los Angeles for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and interviewed by "People" and "Parade" magazines.

Windom says she's just happy everyone got out safely.
