JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - Three Jeffersonville firefighters were
taken to a hospital on Saturday after the fire truck they were riding in
crashed on Charlestown Pike while en route to a reported lightning strike
and possible house fire.
According to a Jeffersonville Fire Department news release, JFD truck #45
was making the run to a house in Rain Tree Ridge subdivision in heavy rain
just before 5 p.m. Saturday when the vehicle's right front tire slid off Charlestown Pike between Evergreen Circle and Lindy Trail. The driver's attempt to correct back onto the roadway was
unsuccessful due to the loose, saturated ground and the grade of the
shoulder. It continued off the roadway, hitting a utility pole and several
small trees. It came to rest in a creek bed.
All three crew members were taken to Clark Memorial Hospital as a
precaution, although none of them complained of any injuries.
The driver took a drug test per Jeffersonville city policy.
There was no immediate word on the amount of damage the fire truck sustained.
It will be transported to fire department headquarters for a more detailed
assessment of its condition.
"This is an unfortunate accident," the news release reads, "but we are
thankful that nobody from the public or the fire department were injured in
