MERS Goodwill officials in Alton say they are trying to determine who may have left $2,350 in the pocket of clothing donated to the organization recently.
MERS Goodwill President and Chief Executive Officer Lewis C. Chartock says the organization will either thank the person for purposely leaving the money as a donation, or right a possible accidental drop-off.
A Goodwill employee found the cash and a deposit slip while processing a clothing donation last week.
Chartock says if Goodwill does not locate the owner, after 30 days the $2,350 will go to MERS Goodwill's programs that help the community.
With spring cleaning and college dormitory move-outs, MERS Goodwill officials recommends looking in pockets, bags, envelopes and small boxes before donating items.
