Firefighters battle flames at Posey Co. church

POSEY CO., IN (WFIE) -

Multiple crews respond to a building fire early Thursday morning in Posey County.

It happened around 1:45 a.m. at what was formerly Olive Chapel in the 1500 block of Copperline Road, just off Highway 69, in Mt. Vernon.

The owner of the building, Robert Black, lives next door. He says he didn't wake up until the trucks were in front of his house with the sirens on.

Black says the building housed Just Measures Radio where he produced secular and religious radio shows.

He says the church has been inactive for 6 years. He says the building had been there since 1902.

Fire officials say the structure is a complete loss.

No one was inside at the time.

A firefighter who bumped his head was sent to Deaconess as a precaution.

It's a whopping $867 billion package that renews the safety net for farmers. But it's the Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP) changes that are controversial. The bill calls for tougher work requirements for SNAP recipients, known as food stamps. It could cause millions of Americans to lose benefits. So, what would...
