Greene County inmate captured; woman allegedly aids in escape

GREENE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) - The Greene County Sheriff's Office tells News Channel 11 an escaped inmate has been captured.

Ronnie Lee Shelton was located Tuesday morning in Pigeon Forge, TN and was taken to the Greene County Detention Center. Shelton is expected to appear in court on the charge of felony escape.

Shelton fled from the Greene County Workhouse Saturday and had been on the run ever since. Authorities also issued a felony arrest warrant for Stacey Ann Low after she allegedly aided in his escape. 

Sheriff Steve Burns says he would like to thank the citizens, the media and the agencies in Sevier County for their assistance. 


PREVIOUS STORY: 

The Greene County Sheriff's Office is searching for escaped inmate Ronnie Lee Shelton. Shelton escaped from the outside recreational area of the Greene County Workhouse on Saturday May 3, 2014.

According to a GCSO news release Monday, one of the suspect's vehicles, a red Pontiac Grand-Am, was located in Sevier County.

GCSO detectives were reportedly at the scene in Sevier County, but Shelton is reportedly still at large.

Deputies have also issued a felony arrest warrant for Stacey Ann Lowe, after she allegedly aided in the escape of Shelton from the Greene County Workhouse.

The sheriff's office asks that anyone with information about Shelton's or Lowe's whereabouts to call the sheriff's department at 798-1800 or the nearest law enforcement agency.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office is searching for escaped inmate Ronnie Lee Shelton. Shelton escaped from the outside recreational area of the Greene County Workhouse on Saturday May 3, 2014.

Shelton was serving a thirty-day sentence for a misdemeanor count of drug paraphernalia possession and one misdemeanor county of criminal impersonation. A felony escape warrant has been issued for the arrest of Shelton.

Shelton is a native to Greene County, Tennessee but has also been known to frequent various parts of North and South Carolina. He has been known to travel in a red Pontiac Grand-Am, a white Mazda Six, or a silver-champagne Mitsubishi Eclipse. He may be in the company of a female, Stacy Ann Lowe.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ronnie Lee Shelton to contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Department at 423-798-1800 or the nearest law enforcement agency.
