North Middle School students sell greenhouse plants

HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) - Students are mixing business and science in a classroom unlike any other at North Middle School.

Larry Carroll's eighth-graders are selling tomato and flower plants they've been growing in the school greenhouse.  The plants cost $1.50 each.

All of the students we spoke to said they enjoyed having a chance to work in a hands-on learning lab.

Jordan Smith says the traditional classroom doesn't compare to what he's experienced in the greenhouse,  "In the classroom we just sit down and listen to things and we don't really get to try it out on our own. In this, we actually get to do it ourselves and carry it on as students and not have much help from the adults."

Smith also says it makes him proud to see a living thing thrive because of him.

If you're interested in buying a plant, you can go by North Middle School from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The sale ends Friday, May 9.
