LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - According to a preliminary investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department, a four-year-old boy accidentally shot himself suffering life-threatening injuries.
Alicia Smiley, LMPD Public Information Officer, said the incident happened around 3:20 p.m. Saturday in the boy's home in the 2100 block of Narrangansett Avenue near Algonquin Park.
LMPD reported the boy is alive and is being treated at Kosair Children's Hospital.
Police recovered the handgun which was involved, but it is not clear who the gun belonged to.
Two other children and the boy's mother were also in the home. No other injuries were reported.
The Homicide Unit of the LMPD is conducting the investigation because the boy is in critical condition. No decision has been made on potential charges.
