LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A vacant lot that was transformed into a community garden has celebrated one year of operation.
Councilwoman Attica Scott (D-District 1) invited people from the Parkland community to a garden party at the corner of 28th and Dumesnil.
A year ago, with the help of 125 volunteers, the vacant lot was transformed into the Parkland Community Garden. Scott said there is now a waiting list.
"People get to contact the president of the community garden," said Scott, "they get to request a raised bed and right now we have a waiting list, so we say to folks if someone falls off, we can add you to the list, but there's a high demand for the garden."
Six fruit trees were planted in the garden as part of the anniversary celebration.
The group has many other plans for the garden, including building a shelter where people can come and have a picnic.
