LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A wildly popular way to get around town has arrived in the Bluegrass state, putting the Derby City on par with 50 other major cities across the country.
Uber X ride-sharing is now being offering in Louisville through the Uber smart phone application.
"I like to use Uber specifically for concerts and sporting events, said Louisville resident Julius Bryant. "I typically use it when I'm in big cities like Chicago and New York so I was pretty excited to finally find out it was coming to Louisville."
Familiar with Uber, Bryant said using the application is simple, requiring only a tap of one's smart phone to ride.
"You just click into the app and a map pops up and it shows you where the cars are," demonstrated Bryant Wednesday while out to lunch. "You can see there's four cars within our general vicinity and the closest one is four minutes away."
No cash? No worries. Payment is linked directly through the app.
"It's a very seamless experience," said Uber Louisville General Manager James Ondrey via phone Wednesday. "You hop in a car, get where you need to go and never touch your wallet. You're emailed a receipt right away with a breakdown of the trip route you just took and all the charges that were incurred based on distance and time."
Both passengers and drivers are given the option to rate their experience.
"He was awesome so I'm going to give him a five star rating," said Bryant at the conclusion of his Uber ride.
Louisville's new Uber X system may soon give local cabs a run for their money.
"Our prices start at up to 25 percent less than a local taxi," said Ondrey ."You can actually split your fare if you want to, right within the app with just a click of a button."
The ride-sharing company is offering first time Louisville users a free $20 credit with the promo code UBERLOU.
