LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Sexual assault affects us all. We may or may not be a survivor, but we most certainly know someone who is. Victims are part of our families and communities and so are perpetrators. Sexual violence is a public safety issue.

  • 1 in 2 women have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime
  • 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys will be sexually abused before they reach the age of 18
  • Perpetrators of sexual violence are not strangers, 9 out 10 women and one out of two men knew the perpetrator
  • 90% of child sexual abuse victims know the perpetrator
  • 68% of child sexual abuse victims are abuse by a family member

The Center for Women and Families is at the center of supporting survivors in their healing and in providing training and education about becoming an active partner in identifying and intervening to end sexual violence.

We want men in our community to join us and add their voices and to stand with us in owning sexual assault and domestic violence as a Men's issue. You can find out how to get involved by following us on Facebook and Twitter @thecenteronline or on the web at thecenteronline.org.

It takes all of us as a community to raise awareness, become an active bystander and intervene at the earliest sign, believe victims, hold the perpetrators accountable and work towards our ultimate goal of creating violence free lives, families and communities and to leave a future for our children that is free from sexual violence.
