Evansville Rotary Club names Civic Award winner

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Evansville Rotary Club names its Civic Award winner.

The honor goes to neonataologist Dr. Maria Del Rio Hoover for advocating for children and women in the tri-state.

The Civic Award is given each year to someone in the community who goes above and beyond to serve others.

"I'm very honored. I feel that Evansville is one of the best communities to live in. I wasn't born here but I've lived here for quite a while.  I think it's important for all of us to embrace our community, to serve it and to serve the families in the community," said Hoover.

Dr. Hoover was shocked when she won the award.

She says she though she was there to support a friend who had won.
