HEBRON, KY (FOX19) -

Seventy-two Tri-State veterans and their guardians will take an Honor Flight from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Tuesday to Washington to see memorials and participate in ceremonies that honor their service.

Honor Flight Tri-State is a nonprofit organization that flies World War II and Korean War veterans to their memorials in Washington at no cost. All veterans traveling on this flight are from the Tri-State.

FOX19's Miranda Del Pozo is reporting live about the trip on Tuesday's FOX19 Morning News from the airport.

Tuesday's trip will include visits to the World War II memorial, Korean War memorial, Vietnam War memorial, Iwo Jima, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the U.S. Air Force memorial and other sights.

A total of 150 people will be on the US Airways chartered flight. Each veteran is accompanied by a guardian. Sixty percent of the guardians are family and 40 percent of the guardians are volunteers.

"Our goal is to honor as many veterans as we can before it is too late," said Cheryl Popp, director of Honor Flight Tri-State. "If you want to meet the veterans, please come to the airport at 6 a.m. or be among the many locals welcoming them home at 10:15 p.m. the same night."

By 2020, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates there will be 289,953 World War II veterans living. For the Korean Conflict, the VA says by 2020 there will be 989,383 veterans living.

Five flights are planned this year. Tuesday's flight is the first one. Other dates are May 20, Aug. 19, Sept. 16 and Oct. 21.
