Know Before You Go: Week of April 21

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The following closures and lane restrictions are expected the rest of this week in connection with construction on the Downtown Crossing and East End Crossing.

Downtown Crossing:

Louisville Streets:

•Adams Street from Campbell Street to Cabel Street is scheduled to be closed through Wednesday, April 23 for paving work.

•Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Wednesday, April 30 to set beams.

•Preston Street from Jefferson Street to Liberty Street is scheduled to be closed through Wednesday, April 30 to set beams.

•The left lane of Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Main Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, April 21 for bridge work.

•The right lane of Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street is scheduled to be closed through Monday, April 28 for bridge work.

•The right lane of eastbound Market Street from Preston Street to Floyd Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, May 3 to deliver beams.

Work Scheduled for This Week:

Kentucky Side:

Work scheduled to begin Monday, April 21:

•One lane of I-71 South from just east of Frankfort Avenue to I-64 West is scheduled to close overnight Monday, April 21-Sunday, April 27 for demolition work. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. each day.

Work scheduled for Thursday, April 24:

•Rolling closures are expected project-wide Thursday, April 24 for pothole patching. Work is scheduled 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

Louisville Streets:

Work scheduled for Monday, April 21:

•Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Main Street is scheduled to be closed Monday, April 21 for a deck pour. It's expected to reopen Tuesday, April 22.

Indiana Side:

Work scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 23:

•A one-block stretch of Stansifer Avenue near the ramp to I-65 North is scheduled to close overnight Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 24 to set beams. It's expected to close around 11 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days. Drivers can still access I-65 North.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

•The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through the spring of 2016.

•The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

•Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.

•7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.

•VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.

•US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.

•US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane. Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.

•The northbound collector distributor ramp in Jeffersonville has been reduced to one lane between 10th Street and Stansifer Avenue. The closure will be in place through late 2015.

•Missouri Avenue is closed between Court Avenue and S. Clark Boulevard for extensive utility work in the area. It's expected to remain closed into July 2014.

•Lane restrictions are in place on the Indiana approach to the Clark Memorial Bridge. Traffic is reduced to one lane on US 31 South and US 31 North from just south of Court Avenue to the bridge. The restrictions are expected to be in place until late May, when the Clark Memorial Bridge is scheduled to close for about six weeks.

•9th Street from Indiana Avenue to just west of I-65 is closed for storm sewer work. It's expected to remain closed into May.

East End Crossing:

Road-striping operations will take place on U.S. 42 to Wolf Pen Branch Road and on River Road (in the vicinity of Wolf Pen Branch Rd. and Timber Ridge Dr.) during the evening of April 23, 2014. There will not be any traffic restrictions from these operations. Motorist are asked to use caution and drive slowly when driving in the area during this time.

 Kentucky: Blasting schedule for week of April 21:

Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841 during the week of April 21, 2014.

Tunnel Blasting: Underground tunnel blasting, which began Jan. 15, 2014, in the east end of Louisville near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841, does NOT require traffic stops. This blasting takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. The noise from blasts may be noticeable, but the blasts pose no risk to the traveling public and local residents. Construction for the underground tunnel requires 24-hour work activities Monday through Saturday, and will continue throughout 2014.

The dates and approximate times for tunnel blasting will be:

•Monday, April 21, at about 7:05 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

•Tuesday, April 22, at about 7:05 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

•Wednesday, April 23, at about 7:05 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

•Thursday, April 24, at about 7:05 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

•Friday, April 25, at about 7:05 a.m. and again at about 5 p.m.

Surface Blasting: Surface blasting, which began in June 2013, does require traffic stops. Surface blasting also takes place Monday through Saturday during morning and afternoon hours. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

•Monday, April 21, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.

•Tuesday, April 22, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.

•Wednesday, April 23, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.

•Thursday, April 24, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.

•Friday, April 25, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.

In addition to the tunnel and surface blasting taking place at the intersection of KY 841 and U.S. 42, surface blasting will take place at the north portal of the tunnel. The north portal is located in the vicinity of Shadow Wood Lane and Shadow Wood Drive. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting at the north portal (within 15 minutes) will be:

•Monday, April 21, at about 3 p.m.

•Tuesday, April 22, at about 3 p.m.

•Wednesday, April 23, at about 3 p.m.

•Thursday, April 24, at about 3 p.m.

•Friday, April 25, at about 3 p.m.

Surface blasting is also scheduled to occur near the intersection of Springdale Road and Wolf Pen Branch Road beginning April 18, 2014. Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on Springdale Road at the Green Spring Drive intersection, and on Wolf Pen Branch Road from Wolfpen Woods Drive to Green Spring Drive.

The dates and approximate times for surface blasting (within 15 minutes) will be:

•Friday, April 18, 2014 at about 11:30 a.m.

•Monday, April 21, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2 :30 p.m.

•Tuesday, April 22, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

•Wednesday, April 23, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

•Thursday, April 24, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

•Friday, April 25, at about 11 a.m. and again at about 2:30 p.m.

NOTE: A message will be posted on the project website at www.kyinbridges.com Thursday of each week regarding the anticipated blasting schedule for the following week. Pre-blast surveys are ongoing; no blasting will occur within 500 feet of any residence prior to the completion of a pre-blast survey for that residence.
