FLOYD COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - One person suffered life-threatening injuries in a single vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 64 in Floyd County on Saturday, according to the Floyd County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies said a preliminary investigation found that a 2012 silver Volkswagen driven by Jesse Crawford, 28, of New Albany was traveling east on I-64 at a high rate of speed just after 4 p.m. on Saturday. The vehicle left the road, crashed into a rock embankment and possibly overturned near mile marker 121, according to the sheriff's department.

Crawford's passenger, Doug Henderson, 28, was not restrained and was seriously injured. Witnesses said a medical helicopter was on the scene after the crash along with numerous police and fire vehicles.

Authorities said alcohol is not believed to be a factor, but drug testing is pending.

The Floyd County Combined Accident Reconstruction Team (CART) investigated the crash.

CART was formed in 2007 by Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson to investigate all fatal crashes and those involving serious bodily injury that may result in criminal charges. CART team members have additional training in crash reconstruction and scene diagramming.

The crash backed up traffic for miles.
