Former Apollo standout, Brad Wilkerson, spent eight years in the major leagues and won a gold medal with Team USA.
Friday, Wilkerson returned to his roots at Apollo High School for a very special honor.
The former Florida gator and major leaguer had his number 12 retired before the Apollo - Daviess County game.
"It's just a great honor for me and my family, the whole community. I think you know a lot of people who were you know on my side and followed me my whole career," said Brad Wilkerson.
"We all just love him and what he's done for our program, just what he did when he was playing here and, of course, how great he became. He's just a fine young man. Brad started for us as an 8th grader and that happens every now and then, but he was one of our main guys. His talent level, he had that, his competitiveness, his mental toughness. He made other guys better. He just had a way about him that was just incredible," said Bob Mantooth, Apollo Head Baseball Coach.
"You dream big and you go after your dreams and you work hard and you never know what's going to happen. I mean, that's what I did. I set goals for myself and we worked at it and that's what I did," said Wilkerson.
Wilkerson said he's doing some middle school coaching right now and says he'd like to get further into baseball coaching in the future.
