LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and miniMarathon will take place simultaneously Saturday.
Starting at Brook and Main Street at 7:30 a.m., about 16,000 runners will make their way along a route taking them through Museum Row, Churchill Downs and Iroquois Park, winding through the Highlands and ending at Preston and Witherspoon.
This is the 41st year for the miniMarathon and 13th year for the Marathon. Aimee Boyd, Vice President of Communications for KDF, offered some tips for residents Saturday.
"If you live in the 3rd and 4th street corridor, you're going to want to park one street over from 3rd and 4th streets because those streets will be closed down," she said. "Just watch for no parking zones. We don't want anyone to get towed."
Street closures related to the event will begin as early as 9 a.m. Friday. To see a map of the closures, visit the Louisville Metro Police Department website.
The following streets will be closed during the following times:
9 a.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Saturday
4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday
Many sections along the route will also be designated as "no parking areas." Most of those will begin to be enforced at midnight Friday.
