POSEY CO., IN (WFIE) - Last year, I took a stand calling for more transparency on the proposed Midwest Fertilizer plant in Posey County.
I agreed with Governor Pence who on his first day in office withdrew his support for the project.
The Governor expressed his concerns after the U.S. military criticized the Pakistani-based Fatima group for being uncooperative in controlling the smuggling of fertilizer into Afghanistan where it was allegedly used to make IED's.
Now, we hear from the Governor that he's convinced Fatima is cooperating and he will reopen discussions on state incentives for the project.
Posey County officials say those incentives could come in the form of infrastructure upgrades at the plant site.
I applaud the Governor for his diligence in making sure our tax dollars are being spent on a corporate neighbor we can all be proud of.
