LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Fourth and fifth graders took a stand against hunger in their community with a lemonade CANstand.
The Chenoweth Elementary School students rotated through the school day Wednesday, serving fresh lemonade in exchange for canned goods.
Donations were sent to Dare to Care Foodbank to feed the less fortunate in our community. The students collected more than 2,300 meals, according to a Dare to Care spokesman.
"The kiddos learn what it means to give back and it just so happens to be Give-A-Day this week so we're glad the event is in conjunction with Mayor Fischer's effort," Principal Penny Deatrick said.
Mayor Greg Fischer thanked the children for their support when he visited Chenoweth Elementary.
