Police said on Friday morning Phillip Schulz, 63, of Jeffersonville, was going to work at Packaging Unlimited, located at 1121 West Kentucky Street, when he came across Murrell. John Schulz, the victim's son, told WAVE 3, Murrell was breaking into vending machines.
Officers said during the burglary Murrell hit Schulz in the head.
Schulz was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. He was pronounced dead Saturday just before 9 p.m. According to the coroner's office, Schulz died of head and neck injuries from the assault.
John Schulz was in court on Wednesday. He told WAVE 3 he wants to see justice served in his father's case.
"Taking an innocent man's life while he is going to work, it shouldn't be out," said John Schulz. "That's a dangerous man."
