True love is sometimes hard to find, but one Central couple has come back from the brink of death, literally, only to find out that God had a bigger and better plan waiting for them.
Charity and Brandon Click say it was their second chance when they found love in the midst of fighting off death.
"When I met him, it was just like--he made my day, " Charity said.
Finding love wasn't hard for the couple, but learning to do generic things like walk and even hold hands was a different story.
During the third grade, Charity started suffering from seizures. Her doctor gave her parents bad news.
"He told my mom that I wasn't going to live and that I was going to pass away, and that there was no cure for what I had," Charity said. "I did so many tests. They found out it was a brain tumor and they set up for my first surgery on my mom's birthday and I had my first surgery and I was going to start fifth grade."
The tumor almost cost Charity her life.
"I mean, it was very depressing when I was a kid and the only bad thing about it is, I can't lift my eyebrow all the way up," Charity said.
She says the side of her face also dents in, which caused her to be teased at school.
"I think the hard part was going back to school and having half of my hair shaved off because when they did the surgery they had to shave half of my hair off," Charity said.
Yet, she made it through until she turned 22 and got a bad case of bacterial meningitis that kept her in a hospital for three months.
"I prayed to God, and thanked God for letting me live because my mom was…how she went through all of that I don't know, but she made it through," Charity said. "I was ready to pass away, but God left me on this Earth to meet this man."
She says Brandon understood her battle for life because he too, almost lost his life.
Two years ago, Brandon went to a Houston hospital to get an aortic valve replaced. He was only supposed to be in the hospital for seven days, but woke up 35 days later.
"Well, it was different. I didn't know where I was at," Brandon said. "But I made it and I'm back home."
Like Charity, Brandon also had to relearn how to walk but the couple say they are just so happy to be with each other.
"I love this old man," Charity said.
