Smoke-out along riverfront raising awareness for Parkinson's

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Evansville riverfront is busy this weekend with the second annual Parkinson's Smoke-Out.

There's live music and plenty of food with booths selling their best barbecue.

Vendors are from as far away as Chicago.

The event also serves as a nationally-sanctioned contest, with six teams competing this weekend.

The event's organizer, Bob Morphew, says the smoke-out started after a friend was diagnosed with Parkinson's.

"One of my best friends was diagnosed three years ago with young offset Parkinson's disease at 33," said Morphew. "I wanted to do something to raise awareness. I'm a barbecuer, so I put together a contest to bring in people from all over the country and help spread awareness."

The smoke-out continues Saturday on Riverside Dr. Live music starts at 12:00 p.m.
