Inspection may be needed before flood repair work

VANDERBURGH CO., IN (WFIE) - The City of Evansville says a new record was set Thursday with 4.96 inches of rain within a 24-hour period which led to flash flooding.

Unfortunately that means many people will have repair work to do on their homes.

That's why the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Building Commission is sending out a reminder that flood repairs and reconstruction often require a building permit.

Depending on the property's location, a detailed inspection may also be required before any reconstruction work takes place.

You can call the Building Commission at (812) 436-7867 to schedule an inspection of flood damage.

A certified professional building inspector will look at the damage and determine the requirements for reconstruction based on federal, state and local laws.

You can also report the damage anytime by clicking here to fill out a flood damage report.

Building Commission staff will contact you to schedule an inspection.
